Who is CGA?

Cereal Growers Association (CGA) is a member based farmer organization registered in 1996 in response to the liberalization of the grain market in Kenya.  Its establishment was due to challenges encountered after liberalization which broadly include inappropriate policies, lack of access to proper production technologies and inefficient market systems.

 

OBJECTIVES

  1. Mobilization of Farmers to form Organized Units: To facilitate access to agricultural business support services e.g. marketing, input procurement, credit access etc.
  2. Capacity Building of Farmer Groups - Training on general business for farmer groups.This will make agricultural production efficient and competitive in Africa.
  3. Provision of Extension Service - CGA together with other partners, facilitates technology transfer through on farm demonstrations and field days.
  4. Post Harvest Handling Facilitation Service -To facilitate access to reliable and affordable services for value addition and access to structural markets.
  5. Output Market Linkages - CGA trains and facilitates farmers to undertake bulking and joint marketing of their produce.
  6. Linkage to Credit Service Providers - CGA trains and facilitates farmers to access credit.
  7. Input Procurement Facilitation Service - CGA performs a facilitator's role in accessing farm inputs to its members at discounted costs.This provides linkages to the input markets for economies of scale.
  8. Policy and Advocacy - CGA continuously engages the Government in dialogue to ensure formulation and implementation of sustainable agricultural policies.
